There are a few longitudinal studies that suggest that attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adolescence is associated with later psychiatric disorders, substance use disorders, and impaired work performance. Adolescent ADHD is associated with a variety of internal and external stresses in adulthood.
